Fishing in the North East of England and Scottish Borders

James’ Background

James started fly fishing at the age of 12 years old on his local river, the River Coquet. He took to the sport very well and by the age of 17 he was competing for the England Youth team, progressing into the Youth World team representing England in the World Championships in the Czech Republic and Portugal.

After losing interest in the competition scene fairly quickly, James began to guide and coach people as this was where his main passion was. Within a few years he had added many locations around the world to his diary thanks to his parents, Jan and Ted who would always choose a family holiday close to a good fishing spot, they did everything they could to ensure he was always near to water.

Pursuing the Dream

James pursued his dream of being a guide and instructor and in 2006 the dream of having his own business came true when he started his business Chasing Fins. The business has taken him all over the world, guiding in locations like New Zealand, America, Scotland, Russia and his home country of England. Whenever free time became available James loved his saltwater fishing and visited Australia and Cuba frequently to chase his favourite saltwater species.

The North East of England (Northumberland) and Scottish Borders was always a big playground for James, spoilt for choice with rivers, lakes and the coastline James soon got a superb reputation for catching and guiding for salmon, sea trout & brown trout on his local rivers. If you were looking to target some big sea trout at night, trying to catch a salmon on a single handed rod or even learn to cast better and improve your techniques, James was always there to help and give you the best chance of making that happen.
